SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has announced the bracket and game times for the 2014 WCC Baseballl Championship, to be played May 22-24 at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, Calif. The four-team championship at neutral site returns for the second straight season.
Pepperdine University captured the West Coast Conference regular season title, marking the second time in three seasons the Waves have finished atop the conference standings. The Waves finished a WCC-best 18-9 in conference play, and will be the top seed in this week's championship. Pepperdine will be joined in this year's field by Loyola Marymount University and Gonzaga University - both of whom finished 17-10 in West Coast Conference play. Conference bylaws were utilized to break the tie for seeding purposes, giving Loyola Marymount the 2-seed, and Gonzaga the 3-seed. Santa Clara makes its first trip to Stockton with a 16-11 slate, qualifying as the 4-seed.
The tournament features a modified NCAA Regionals double-elimination format, with no "if necessary" championship game.
The first pitch of the 2014 WCC Baseball Championship is on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. PDT, when top-seed Pepperdine faces Santa Clara. That game will be followed by Loyola Marymount vs. Gonzaga at approximately 7 p.m. PDT. Friday's action gets underway with the first of three games beginning at Noon PDT. The tournament's first five games will all be streamed live and available free of charge on TheW.tv, powered by Campus Insiders.
Saturday's championship game will be played at 7:00 p.m. PDT, and will be televised live on ESPNU and via WatchESPN.
The winner of the 2014 West Coast Conference Baseball Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
