May 22, 2006

Lubbock, TX - Junior catcher Chad Tracy, a preseason All-American, was named one of 30 semi-finalists for the 2006 Brooks Wallace College Player of the Year Award, the College Baseball Foundation announced on Monday. The Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate baseball player.

The selection committee will trim the list to three finalists following the NCAA Super Regionals and will make that announcement in Omaha, Neb. on Thursday, June 15. The finalists, their head coaches and parents will be invited to Lubbock, TX, where they will participate in a two-day celebration of college baseball on July 3-4, with the winner to be announced at the annual award banquet on Monday, July 3.

Tracy is one of three catchers named to the semi-finalists list, joining Matt Weiters of Georgia Tech and Matt McBride of Lehigh. The junior catcher is currently batting .323 with five home runs and 41 RBI while starting all 56 games for Pepperdine.

Two weeks ago, Tracy was named one of 10 semi-finalists for the Johnny Bench Award that is given to the country's top collegiate catcher.

The Wallace Award announcement will be nationally televised on Fox Sports Network and its family of regional affiliate networks as well as Fox College Sports.
