May 22, 2006

(San Francisco) - USF baseball took another step forward in its quest for the first NCAA Regional berth in program history when the 2006 West Coast Conference Champions earned the first regular season top-25 rankings in school history as released today. The Diamond Dons made their debut in the Baseball America Poll at No. 23, earned No. 24 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll and entered at No. 25 in the Rosenblatt Report.

"It's always nice to be recognized on a national level by anybody," USF head coach Nino Giarratano said. "To finally earn that is nice for USF. I think we have done enough to be recognized. I am happy for the players and obviously for the program."

San Francisco hosts co-league champion Pepperdine in the 2006 WCC Championship Series beginning Friday, May 26 at Benedetti Diamond. First pitch against the Waves is set for 1:00 PM and will be televised live by Fox Sports Net.
