WCC Baseball Tournament Opens Thursday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference regular season has come to a close and the Conference Tournament begins on Thursday with Gonzaga and San Francisco opening the tournament in Game 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, California on Thursday, May 22. San Diego and BYU will be featured in the night cap with a 7:00 p.m. opening pitch. Three games are scheduled for Friday with all five games on Thursday and Friday to be aired on the WCC Network. The Championship game on Saturday will be aired at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 and will be aired on ESPNU. The winner of the Championship game will earn the Automatic Bid for the post season.


The West Coast Conference features three teams with a top 60 RPI as of May 21: San Diego (54), San Francisco (55), BYU (57).

Gonzaga captured its second West Coast Conference regular season title (2009).

San Diego junior third baseman Kris Bryant leads the nation in home runs, walks, slugging percentage, and runs scored.

BYU enters this week's WCC Tournament as the conference's hottest team. The Cougars have won 7 straight - including Tuesday night's win at 13th-ranked Arizona State.

San Francisco is seeking its first NCAA berth since winning the West Coast Conference title in 2011.

Saint Mary's senior Brenden Kalfus closed his collegiate career by hitting safely in his final 36 games - the longest such streak in the NCAA this season, and the longest hitting streak in WCC history.
