San Bruno, Calif. - The University of San Francisco was rewarded for capturing a share of the WCC regular season title for the first time in program history, as junior Scott Cousins was named WCC Player of the Year, senior Patrick McGuigan earned WCC Co-Pitcher of the Year honors, and Head Coach Nino Giarratano was tabbed for WCC Coach of the Year recognition. Pepperdine right-hander Barry Enright shares WCC Pitcher of the Year honors with McGuigan, and San Diego's Josh Romanski was named WCC Freshman of the Year.

Cousins, a unanimous All-WCC first team selection for the second straight season, becomes just the second Don to earn WCC Player of the Year honors and the first since Taggert Bozied took home the award in 1999. The Reno, NV native established himself as one of the top two-way players in the nation, batting .352 with six home runs, while posting a 4-2 mark and 3.03 ERA as USF's Friday starter. Cousins excelled during conference play, batting .349 and stealing a league-high seven bases, while notching a WCC-best 2.25 ERA on the mound. The junior tied for the conference lead with 42 strikeouts, and tossed a WCC-high two complete games against league opponents.

Enright, the 2005 WCC Freshman of the Year, becomes the third Pepperdine hurler in the last four seasons to earn WCC Pitcher of the Year recognition. The sophomore notched a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play, and compiled a 12-1 overall record during the 2006 campaign. The Stockton, CA native ranked third in the league with a 2.76 ERA against conference competition, and held WCC hitters to a .288 batting average.

McGuigan is the first San Francisco player to receive WCC Pitcher of the Year honors after recording a 5-1 mark in league play in 2006. The senior appeared in 10 games with six starts during WCC competition, posting a 3.12 ERA and nailing down three saves in addition to his five victories. The Honolulu, HI native was one of just three league pitchers to toss a shutout in WCC play during the 2006 campaign.

Romanski is the second Torero in the last three seasons to earn WCC Freshman of the Year accolades, as the Corona, CA native saw action on the mound and at the plate in 2006. Romanski batted .308 with a home run in 18 games as an outfielder, and notched a perfect 3-0 record in nine mound appearances along with a save in WCC play.

Giarratano becomes just the fourth coach in conference history to earn WCC Coach of the Year honors in consecutive seasons, and the first since Santa Clara's John Oldham took home the recognition in both 1996 and 1997. Giarratano, who just last season became the first WCC Coach of the Year from USF since the legendary Dante Benedetti earned the honor in 1971, piloted the Dons to a 37-19 regular season mark, including a 15-6 record in conference play and a spot in the WCC Championship Series for the first time in program history.
