Pepperdine, San Diego to compete in NCAA Regionals

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- For the first time since 2008, the West Coast Conference has multiple postseason teams. 2012 WCC champion Pepperdine is making its first NCAA appearance since 2008, while San Diego is in the field for the first time since 2010.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • Pepperdine won a National Championship in 1992.

  • Through the end of the regular season, San Diego ranks 12th nationally with a .310 team batting average.

  • San Diego placed a conference-best 12 players on the 2012 WCC All-Conference Team. A complete list can be found in the PDF above.

  • Pepperdine junior 2B Joe Sever is the 2012 WCC Player of the Year. The Waves collected two other individual honors, with junior SS Zach Vincej being named Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach Steve Rodriguez collecting WCC Coach of the Year honors for the first time. The awards are voted on by the conference's nine head coaches.

  • Only three conferences don't have a postseason tournament (WCC, Pac-12, Big West). The WCC will add a four-team championship in 2013.
