FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of San Diego had three players named to the 2006 Fullerton Regional All-Tournament team. The three Toreros named to the team were catcher Jordan Abruzzo, second baseman Kevin Hansen and left fielder Josh Romanski.
Abruzzo had a solid performance at the plate for the Toreros this past weekend in the Fullerton NCAA Regional as he went 7-for-12 (.583) with one double, three home runs and 12 RBI. Abruzzo had his best day of the season in Saturday's wild finish against Saint Louis University. Abruzzo went a perfect 5-for-5 with eight RBI, three home runs and one double. The three home runs set a new USD single-game record for home runs, along with his eight RBI. His three home runs also tied a record for most single-game home runs hit by one batter at Goodwin Field.
Hansen also was a huge help for USD as he went 6-for-12 (.500) with one double and five RBI. He was also forced to play second base for the Toreros once USD's starting second baseman, Keoni Ruth, went down with an injury in the first game of the regional. Hansen was able to pull off one of the most exciting plays in baseball, a suicide squeeze bunt, and he did it twice, both times beating out the throw to first base to keep the Toreros' rally alive.
Romanski, the 2006 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, showed the nation why he earned this distinction as he went 6-for-12 with one double, two home runs and four RBI. Romanski's home run in the first game against Fresno State sparked USD's come back and he was also a catalyst for USD's comeback in Sunday's heartbreaking loss to Fresno State in the final game of the 2006 season for USD.
