With about 30 family members and friends at his Moraga home Thursday afternoon, Aaron Poreda got a call from his adviser, informing the USF pitcher that the White Sox likely were going to take him in the draft.
Poreda didn't say anything immediately to the gathering, but those folks clearly sensed something good was going to happen for him. Poreda noticed their reaction -- and had one admonition:
"Don't jinx it."
Jinx avoided, Chicago did choose Poreda, a 6-foot-5 left-hander, in the first round with the 25th overall selection, making him the highest pick in the history of the Dons' baseball program.
