Randy Wells And Anthony Aliotti Garner All-Ping Freshman Honors

Omaha, NE- Saint Mary's newcomers Randy Wells (Pittsburg, CA) and Anthony Aliotti (Pittsburg, CA) were named to the inaugural Ping!Baseball All Ping! Freshmen Team. Wells was named to the second team at second base while Aliotti garnered third team honors at the utility spot. The duo added to their Louisville Slugger Freshmen All American accolades.

The inaugural Ping!Baseball All Ping! Freshman Team, Ping! Freshman Player of the Year and Ping! Freshman Pitcher of the Year were announced today by the Ping!Baseball. The rosters were selected by the Ping!Baseball staff after countless hours searching rosters for the premier freshmen players in the nation.

Anthony Aliotti was honored at a utility positon.


Wells was the first freshman to pace the team in hitting since Bryan Byrne in 2003. Wells batted .354 which ranked third in the conference. The Pittsburg native recorded a team-leading 63 hits, 11 doubles, three triples and 37 RBI. Wells also paced the team with 83 totals bases and added a home run. The second baseman tallied a team-high 19 multi-hit games, nine multi-RBI games and sported a 15 game hit streak earlier in the year. Wells was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team.

Aliotti was one of the top two-way threats in the conference. At the plate, the De La Salle product batted .320 with a home run and 37 RBI. Aliotti ranked fourth in the WCC in on base percentage with a .438 mark and added 30 walks. With the glove, the first baseman was one of the tops in the league with a .995 fielding percentage, making only two errors in 397 chances. On the hill the southpaw tallied a team-leading six wins with a 6-4 mark and maintained a 4.44 ERA. Aliotti pitched in 12 games and made 10 starts while striking out 46 in 52.2 innings pitched.
