June 12, 2009

Moraga, CA - The post season accolades are beginning to pile up for Saint Mary's Baseball freshman third baseman Troy Channing, as he was named to the Pro-Line Athletic/NCBWA Division I Freshman All-American Second Team as well as the Baseball America All-American second team. This marks the fourth all-American team Channing has been named too following his record setting 2009 campaign.

The 2009 Pro-Line Athletic/NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 17 conferences and 10 conference championship teams. The two all-American squads are also made up of 12 conference "Rookie of the Year" winners, including Channing who was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.

Channing has also been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, the All-Ping Freshman Team, and was also one of 16 players named a semi-finalist to the Dick Howser Trophy, which is given annually to college baseballs player of the year.

Channing finished the year as the WCC triple-crown leader, leading the conference with 20 homeruns, 75 RBI and a .379 average. It was the first time in Saint Mary's history that a Gael won the WCC triple-crown and just the third time in the conference since 1985. The 20 homeruns and the 75 RBI also set Saint Mary's single season records.

Currently, Channing is playing summer ball in the Northwest League, on the Madison Mallards. As of June 11, 2009 he was hitting .262, going 11-for-42 with seven runs scored, three doubles, a homerun and 10 driven in.
