Moraga, CA - Former Gael and current Kansas City Royal Mark Teahen was honored by Major League Baseball this past week earning the American League Player of the Week. Teahen becomes the first Royal to win this award this season.
During the week of July 30, Teahen batted an impressive .400 going 8-for-20. Teahen slugged .900 while hitting a double and three round trippers. He tallied eight RBI and touched 18 bags in this stretch.
Perhaps the most memorable game of his award winning week came on July 25 when the Royals faced off against the Baltimore Orioles. Teahen went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI, leading the Royals to a 7-5 victory.
This honor comes in the middle of an impressive summer for Teahen. Since June 3, Teahen has batted .323 while belting 11 homers and driving in 41 runs.
Teahen has shown no signs of slowing down. On August 2, Teahen led his Royals to a victory against the Chicago White Sox. Teahen belted a go-ahead two run home run in the fifth inning. On the night, Teahen went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.
On the season Teahen is batting .285 with 13 HR, 50 RBI and 49 runs scored.
