Sept. 26, 2006
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team has released its 2007 schedule. The schedule is tentative and times are subject to change.
The Toreros schedule features yet another strong caliber of opponents, much like the 2006 season. 10 NCAA Tournament participants in Fresno State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Texas, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, the University of Huston, Wake Forest University, the University of San Francisco and Pepperdine University highlight USD's schedule. The Toreros will compete in 23 games against this top competition.
USD will renew its long standing rivalry with cross-town rival San Diego State with three games, one of which is in the SDSU Tournament to be held at Petco Park. In this tournament the Toreros will also square off against Oklahoma, Michigan and the Aztecs in March. Other rivalries that are renewed this season are against UC Riverside and UC Irvine.
The Toreros will once again compete in the strong West Coast Conference, a conference that sent three teams to the NCAA Tournament in 2006, only the second time in the history of the conference this has happened. The Toreros will get to host both defending champion Pepperdine and runner-up San Francisco at Cunningham Stadium late in the season.
USD will look to make its second consecutive trip the NCAA Tournament as the Toreros earned an at-large berth this past season, due in large part to the strength of schedule and the success they had against those opponents.
