ZAGS LEAD CANADA TO BRONZE

SANCTI SPRITIUS, Cuba - Mark Ellis and Cory Hall, a pair of freshmen to the Gonzaga University baseball team, helped to lead the Canadian Junior National team to a bronze medal Wednesday at the World Junior AAA Championships in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba.

Hall, a 6-2 pitcher, earned the win Wednesday in the 6-2 victory over Mexico, to lead Canada to the third place finish. Hall pitched seven innings of relief, allowing two runs on eight hits while posting five strikeouts. For the tournament, Hall posted a 3-1 record with a 1.13 earned run average, while recording 15 strikeouts.

Ellis, Canada's starting third baseman, posted a .207 average for the tournament, going 6-for-29, with one double and two runs batted in.

The bronze medal is Canada's fifth-ever medal at the World Junior AAA Championships and its first medal since 1997. Baseball Canada also took the gold medal in 1991 as well as the bronze medal in 1983, 1987 and 1997.
