Surprise, Ariz. - LMU baseball's Stephen Kahn (2003-05) was selected to participate in the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Showcase Friday, October 27 at Surprise Stadium in Arizona. Kahn, one of three Lions currently playing in the prestigious Arizona Fall League (AFL), will play for the West Division in the showcase.
The right-hander was chosen for the showcase from a pool of 210 AFL players. MLB scouting and farm directors selected 25 players from each division based on big-league potential.
The game will be played Friday, the off day between games five and six of the World Series.
Since its inaugural season in 1992, over 1,200 AFL alumni have gone on to Major League careers, including 99 MLB All-Stars and 13 of the 14 previous National and American League Rookie of the Year award-winners. Friday's game will mark the first-ever Rising Stars Showcase for the league.
The AFL is comprised of six teams totaling the 210 players. Seven players were selected from each MLB team for the 32-game season.
Kahn, along with LMU baseball's Michael Schultz and Josh Whitesell, were selected for the AFL. LMU is one of just seven schools (Rice, Miami, LSU, Clemson, Texas, South Carolina) to place three or more players in this year's AFL.
While wearing the LMU uniform, Kahn was selected as the 2004 West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year and represented his country on the 2004 USA Baseball National Team.
