In a continuing effort to reach out to the San Francisco and Bay Area community, the USF Baseball Program volunteered at the Nike Women's Marathon this last Sunday.
25 members of the 2007-08 team had responsibilities such as putting together and cleaning up the 3rd Aid Station at Crissy Field along the 26 mile course. They also passed out water to the nearly 19K runners in an effort to raise money for research on Leukimia and Lymphoma.
This is one of the many community service and charity projects completed by the Dons in recent years under head coach Nino Giarratano. Besides the Nike Women's Marathon, the baseball program's community service resume includes the Junior Giants, Free to Play, the 2006 Breast Cancer Walk, Hurricane Katrina victims, Kipp-Bayview School, all in the past two years. These are all in addition to the Dante Benedetti Fall League, Junior Dons, and various camps and clinics.
