LOS ANGELES - LMU baseball opened its Crimson & Navy Fall Series Thursday, and it was Crimson who took a 1-0 lead in the three-game series in front of an impressive fall crowd at Page Stadium. Play continues Friday and Saturday with 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. starts.
Crimson got a boost from the top of its order Thursday, as the 1-2-3 batters in Anthony Soto, Marty Mullins, and Eric Farris combined to go 9-for-11. Soto and Farris each went 3-for-4, while Mullins reached base four times, going 3-for-3 with a walk.
Taylor Shoop gave the Crimson an early lead with a 3-run home run in the top of the first.
Freshman Tim Busbin earned the win on the mound for Crimson, working 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and three hits.
Fellow freshman Xavier Esquivel retired the side in the final inning for Crimson, striking out two.
Lee Roberts, a 2006 West Coast Conference All-Freshman selection, threw one inning of no-hit ball for Navy. He struck out one in the frame.
Also for Navy, senior DeAndre Miller went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Prior to the LMU men's basketball Homecoming Game Friday night (7:30 p.m.), stop by Page Stadium for the 3:00 p.m. Crimson & Navy Fall Series game two. Navy's Kevin Hernandez (RHP) and Crimson's Daniel Macias (LHP) are the projected game two starters.
Saturday's 10:00 a.m. game three will conclude the LMU baseball fall season. A BBQ in Pride Park will follow game three, and all are welcome to attend.
