Recent 2006 American League MVP Justin Morneau signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of San Francisco. The star at New Westminster High School chose Coach Giarratano and the Dons back in 1999, but went straight to professional baseball after being drafted in the 3rd round (89th overall pick) in the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft. Morneau became the second Canadian born player to win the MVP award, as he just edged out New York Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter. He won the award by finishing with a .321 batting average, 34 home runs, and 130 RBI's.
