Tucson, AZ - San Diego and Pepperdine were both ranked in the Collegiate Baseball News top-40 preseason poll released on Friday. The Toreros checked in at No. 7 in the preseason listing, while the Waves were ranked No. 29.
San Diego is coming off its best season in program history after posting a 43-18 record, the first 40-win season in the history of USD baseball. The Toreros won their third WCC championship in 2007, and received a program-best No. 4 national ranking before hosting an NCAA Regional for the first time as the No. 8 national seed.
Pepperdine earned a postseason bid for the fifth straight season last year, and was ranked as high as No. 7 during the regular season. The Waves notched a 35-22 overall record, and finished third in the WCC with a 14-7 mark in conference play.
Gonzaga and Santa Clara both received votes in the Collegiate Baseball News preseason poll. The Zags narrowly missed out on postseason selection a year ago, finishing second in the WCC with a 15-6 league record and a 33-25 overall mark. The Broncos tied for fourth place in the conference standings last season, notching a 27-29 record with a 9-12 mark in league play.
