The Gonzaga University baseball team will open the 2008 season receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll. The Bulldogs completed the 2007 campaign with a 33-25 record, including advancing to the West Coast Conference Championship for the first time since 2001.

The preseason poll features five teams in the top-40 that the Bulldogs will face in 2008. In addition to the five opponents, three 2008 foes are receiving votes by the national publication. West Coast Conference opponent the University of San Diego leads the pack of ranked foes at No. 7. Two-time defending national champion, Oregon State University, No. 15, Fresno State University, No. 21, Pepperdine University, No. 29, and Oklahoma State University , No. 31, round out ranked opponents. Santa Clara University, the University of Washington, and Washington State University are all receiving votes.

The University of Arizona tops the preseason poll after posting a 42-17 record last season. The University of South Carolina, Arizona State University, the University of Mississippi and the University of North Carolina round out the top-5.

When the 2008 campaign begins February 22 at Oklahoma State , the Zags will be looking to continue their success from last season. In 2007, Gonzaga enjoyed one of the most memorable season in the program's history. The achievements of the squad include boasting its best record in 16 years, landing eight All-WCC accolades, opening its new home - Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field, and advancing to the WCC Championship for the first time since 2001.

The Bulldogs finished 2007 with a 33-25 record. The 33 wins marked the first time since 1990 that the Zags have posted 30 or more victories. The season also marked the highest finish in conference play for Gonzaga, as the Zags finished second in the regular season standings with a 15-6 mark against league opponents.

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
