TUCSON, Ariz.- While Lion fans are busy celebrating the holidays this week, the LMU baseball team is beginning the countdown to Opening Day, set for Friday, February 2 at Page Stadium. The excitement heightened this week, as Collegiate Baseball released its preseason poll recognizing the best of the best heading into 2007.
Not only were the Lions among the vote-earners, but several of their 2007 opponents were as well, setting up an exciting campaign just around the corner.
LMU appeared just outside the nation's top-40, earning votes in the preseason poll.
Among the teams in the top-25 include 2007 opponents Cal State Fullerton (#12), Tulane (#16), Pepperdine (#19), and USC (#25).
Other teams listed that the Lions will face this season include 30th-ranked Long Beach State and 36th-ranked San Francisco.
Like LMU, opponents UC Irvine, Fresno State, San Jose State, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Cal Poly are all earning votes in the preseason poll.
In all, 35 of the Lions' 56 games are against teams named in the preseason poll.
Opening Day will bring Sacramento State to Page Stadium February 2 for the 2:00 p.m. match-up.
