Post-Game Quotes :: WCC Tournament :: San Francisco vs. Pepperdine

March 7, 2009

San Francisco Head Coach Rex Walters

Opening Statement:
We have a young team who has never been in a finality type game where you don't play well and the season is over. We have got some room to grow and we have got some young kids. If we continue to give Dior some help we will be a better ball club and maybe things will go a little different next year.

Junior Forward Dior Lowhorn

What can you take from this loss into next year:
I think we just have to learn from it. Like coach said I am the only one that has been through the wars and rigors of this post-season kind of tournament. We just got to bring in the new guys to the locker room and remind them when we get to this point remember the bitter taste in our mouth.

Asking about only having eight players available:
I think it is just the inexperience, late game situations of being in this kind of atmosphere. I think the fatigue plays a factor but I think we play harder with these eight to the very end. I think it's just the lack of experience.

Pepperdine University Head Coach Tom Asbury

Opening Statement:
We're pleased to advance, I told my guys at half, "It's going to be a shoot out, unless we start guarding somebody we're going to be in trouble." If we could possibly shoot as well as we did in the first half and we didn't: we shot 37% instead of 59 in the first half but we shot well enough to get it done. We did hit our foul shots. We got it done. The key is I think, one of the biggest problems we've had this year is turning the ball over and we only turned it over four times, so that's pretty remarkable for such a young team So it's a great win for us, we advance and play Portland tomorrow.

On the match up with Portland Tomorrow:
Well we'll go back tonight and reevaluate what we did. You know, they're a very nice team, really got a good balance, shoot the ball well. We didn't shoot the ball. We didn't really give ourselves a chance up there. In addition to them being a good team and playing well, we were horrible from the foul line and didn't shoot the ball well from the field and never really entered. So we really need to do those things better which I think we're capable. We better, cause you know it's a long trip home if we don't get those things done. So obviously we need to defend and shoot the ball and hit our foul shots like we did tonight.

Senior Guard Mike Hornbuckle

On playing later in the day:
We basically do the same thing we always do. Repetition is something that's important to us, so everything we do is just a couple hours later. It allowed us to rest up a bit. It's the same thing, different time, doesn't really affect us.

Freshman Guard Keion Bell

On playing as a unit:
I believe we played well as a unit. I mean, this year we do have a pretty deep team so we go pretty deep into the bench. Mike came off the bench and was playing pretty good. He was running the show for us and was distributing the ball and scoring also. We tried to get others involved so I think we played real good as a unit and team.
