LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Sterling Byrd scored a career-high 26 points and Aaron Nixon added 21 to lead Long Beach State to a 95-90 victory over Pepperdine Thursday.
Byrd made 10 of 13 shots and had eight rebounds for the 49'ers (4-4). Nixon scored 19 points in the second-half.
It was Long Beach State's first win over Pepperdine (2-7) in 20 years.
Marvin Lea led the Waves with 34 points, a career-high, on 11 of 18 shooting. Chase Griffin scored 16 points and Kingsley Costain added 11 points for Pepperdine.
Playing with a broken nose, Kejuan Johnson scored 15 points and Kevin Houston added 13 for the 49'ers.
