SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has named its Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 20, 2014.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - SAM DOWER, JR SR., F, GONZAGA
Sam Dower Jr. made his first two starts after coming off the bench for three games following a back injury and helped Gonzaga to a road sweep at Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. Dower, Jr. averaged 23.0 points on 19-of-29 from the floor (65.5%) to go along with 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks.
Dower Jr. connected on all seven attempts from the field at Pepperdine in an early battle for first place in the league standings and finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. After a 1-for-6 start from the floor at Loyola Marymount, Dower Jr. finished 12-for-22 on his way to a career-high 28 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth career double-double performance.
With the wins at Pepperdine and LMU, the Bulldogs improved to 16-3, 6-1 in WCC play. Gonzaga hosts San Diego Thursday, January 23 on ESPNU and then welcomes BYU Saturday, Jan. 25 in a game carried live on ESPN2. Both contests start at 7:00 p.m. (PT).
