SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 27, 2014.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JOHNNY DEE, Jr., G, SAN DIEGO
Junior guard Johnny Dee led San Diego to a WCC road split in the Pacific Northwest. The Toreros suffered a close 59-56 loss at No. 21 Gonzaga and bounced back for a win 65-63 at Portland.
For the two games Dee averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals. He shot 75% from the field (15-20) while going perfect from beyond the arc (7-7) and at the free throw line (10-10). In Saturday's win at Portland his two free throws with 7.4 seconds left sealed the victory as 13 of his 21 points came in the second half rally. For the game he made 7-10 field goals, 4-4 in threes and 3-3 in free throws.
Dee almost single-handedly led USD to an upset at Gonzaga by scoring 26 points on 8-10 shooting while making all three 3-point attempts and cashing in on all seven free throws. He currently owns a streak of 47 consecutive made free throws. Through nine WCC games Dee is shooting 62.5% from three-point range (25-40) and has yet to miss at the free throw line (24-24).
