SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University freshman guard Matt Bouldin was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for his performance in the Zags' wins over San Francisco and San Diego. The two wins extended the Zags' home court winning streak to 49 straight games, the longest streak in the nation, and kept Gonzaga atop the conference standings with a 6-1 record in WCC games.
Bouldin, a freshman from Highlands Ranch, CO, averaged 17.0 points per game, while handing out 3.5 assists per game and hauling in 2.5 rebounds per game. The 6-5 guard was extremely efficient scoring the ball, connecting on 13-of-15 attempts from the field for a blistering 86.7 percentage. After missing 17 straight three-pointers, including his first one Saturday against USF, Bouldin found his stroke from beyond the arc, knocking down 6-of-8 three-point attempts for the week.
Bouldin started the week by dropping in 16 points in the Zags' 72-56 win over San Francisco. Bouldin connected on 6-of-7 attempts from the field, including 4-of-5 from the three-point line. He also added four assists and grabbed three rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Bouldin followed that up by pouring in 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting in the Zags' 91-82 win over San Diego on Monday night.
The weekly honor is the first for Bouldin and the first by a freshman this season. He is the third Gonzaga player this season to earn the distinction, following teammates Josh Heytvelt and Derek Raivio who earned the award on Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, respectively.
