SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Two West Coast Conference teams will participate in the 11th annual Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters - a two-day men's college basketball event pitting potential NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other February 22-23. On Monday, the entire Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters field was announced. Saint Mary's (19-4) will host No. 16 Creighton (20-3) in the field's marquee match-up. The Gaels will battle the nation's best shooting team on Saturday, February 23 at 6 p.m. EST in a nationally televised game on ESPN or ESPN2. Loyola Marymount (8-13) will travel to Cal Poly (9-11), where the Lions and Mustangs will tip off at 7 p.m. PST on February 23.
Overall, the West Coast Conference is making its ninth appearance in the first ten years of the event. WCC teams are 7-5 in BracketBusters play since it began in 2003.
BracketBusters, named because of the success of the teams in NCAA Tournament play, will provide the teams an opportunity to play other top non-conference opponents three weeks before Selection Sunday.
This year's field features 122 teams from 13 conferences, including four from the Missouri Valley Conference, and three each from the MAAC, Mid-American Conference, and the Ohio Valley Conference.
As part of their participation in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters, both Saint Mary's and LMU will enter a two-game contract with their opposition. Saint Mary's will visit Creighton, and Loyola Marymount will host Cal Poly on a future, mutually-agreeable date.
