Preview: Gonzaga travels to San Diego in a pivotal game between WCC regular season title hopefuls. The Zags, along with Saint Mary's, lead the conference with a 9-1 record. San Diego enters the contest with an 8-1 mark in league play, their best start since the 1986-1987 campaign. Both teams enter the game riding winning streaks, as the Toreros have won a WCC-best seven straight, while the Zags have won three consecutive games. With Saturday's 83-63 win at San Francisco, Gonzaga secured its 11th consecutive 20-win season with a 20-6 overall, 9-1 conference record. The Bulldogs will be facing a familiar opponent on the San Diego sidelines, as long time Gonzaga assistant Bill Grier is in his first season as the head coach of the Toreros. Grier knows the Zags inside and out as he spent the previous 16 years on the Gonzaga bench, including the last eight seasons as Mark Few's top assistant.
Match-Up History: This will be the 72nd meeting between San Diego and Gonzaga, with the Bulldogs own a commanding 51-20 lead. The Zags have won 12 straight meetings between the two institutions, including an 80-70 win on January 19th, marking the Toreros only conference loss.
