2007 WCC Men's Basketball Tournament Seeds Announced

San Bruno, Calif. - With the conclusion of the West Coast Conference men's basketball regular season, conference squads now turn their attention to the WCC Tournament, which begins on Friday, March 2 at the Chiles Center on the campus of the University of Portland.

Gonzaga secured the top seed, posting an 11-3 record in conference play to win its seventh straight WCC regular season title and the Bulldogs' ninth in the last 10 seasons. Santa Clara owns the No. 2 seed and like the Zags will earn a bye until the semifinals on March 4. Saint Mary's and San Francisco tied for third in the final WCC regular season standings with 8-6 league records. The Gaels earned the No. 3 seed by virtue of sweeping the season series versus the Dons. USF is the tournament's No. 4 seed, while San Diego is the No. 5 seed and Loyola Marymount is the No. 6 seed. Portland and Pepperdine tied for seventh place in the final regular season standings, but the Pilots are the No. 7 seed and the Waves are the No. 8 seed by virtue of Portland sweeping the season series with Pepperdine.

By garnering the top two seeds, Gonzaga and Santa Clara receive byes until the semifinals on March 4th. Saint Mary's and San Francisco receive first round byes and will play in the quarterfinals on March 3rd. First round action will begin on March 2nd with San Diego taking on Pepperdine followed by Loyola Marymount versus Portland in the nightcap. The winner of the San Diego/Pepperdine game will advance to face San Francisco in the first quarterfinal on March 3rd, while Saint Mary's awaits the winner of the Loyola Marymount/Portland game in the second quarterfinal.
