West Coast Conference Championships begin Wednesday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships tip off at The Orleans Arena on Wednesday night, as Portland faces Loyola Marymount. For the first time, all 16 games will be nationally televised, with coverage on BYUtv and ESPN Networks.


  • Gonzaga junior Kelly Olynyk is the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, as voted on by the WCC's nine head coaches. Olynyk is the 11th GU player to be recognized as Player of the Year.

  • Gonzaga senior Mike Hart is the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Hart is the second straight Bulldog to win this award (Rob Sacre, 2012).

  • Pepperdine freshman Stacy Davis is the West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year, given to the WCC's top freshman or transfer. Davis is the first Wave since Alex Acker in 2003 to win the award.

  • The 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships in Las Vegas are sold out. Limited single game tickets are expected to be available each game day at the Orleans Arena box office.

  • Gonzaga head coach Mark Few was voted WCC Coach of the Year by his peers. It is the ninth such honor for Few.

  • The popular WCC Live talk show will broadcast live from the arena concourse beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, featuring live coach and player interviews. The show prior to Monday's championships will air starting at 4:30 p.m. Listen at blogtalkradio.com/wccsports .

  • The top seed in the WCC Basketball Championships has won that year's title just twice in the last five years (Gonzaga, 2009; Saint Mary's, 2012).
