MILWAUKEE - The No. 10 seed BYU men's basketball team fell 87-68 to No. 7 seed Oregon in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday at the Bradley Center.
Tyler Haws scored a team-high 19 points to go along with four rebounds. Matt Carlino added 15 points and five rebounds, while Eric Mika finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Frank Bartley IV scored 10 points off the bench with four rebounds and Nate Austin grabbed five rebounds.
Haws made the first points of the game on a jumper at the 19:46 mark before Oregon went up 9-5 four minutes into the game. The Ducks extended their lead 15-7 until Anson Winder connected on a 3-pointer and Haws made a jumper at the 12:31 mark to make it a three-point game.
Mika's hook ended Oregon's 9-1 run for the Ducks' 26-17 lead with 7:16 remaining in the half. Haws drained a 3-pointer at the 4:48 mark and ended the half on a 6-0 run with Bartley's trip to the free-throw line and drives by Bartley and Carlino. Oregon led 39-31 at the half with a 44.4 shooting percentage.
Haws led the team with nine points, while Mika added seven points and four rebounds at the break.
Haws opened the second half with a jumper to cut Oregon's lead to 39-33. Oregon put its lead back up to 12 until Carlino's bucket made it a 10-point game with 16:02 remaining.
A Bartley 3-pointer brought the Cougars within seven points at the 13:43 mark to start a BYU 11-4 run. Mika's putback and Carlino's pair of 3-pointers cut Oregon's lead to 56-53 with 12:02 left.
The Ducks answered with an 11-2 run to retake their 12-point lead until Haws' long jumper at the 9:27 mark to cut Oregon's lead to 67-57. Oregon took its largest lead of the game at 86-61 with under four minutes left to play.
Oregon advances to play Wisconsin on Saturday with the win against BYU.
