BYU Becomes Ninth Member of West Coast Conference
For the first time in over thirty years, the West Coast Conference has altered its membership, as Brigham Young University joined the WCC on July 1, 2011. BYU will field a team in 11 of the Conference's 13 sponsored sports, including men's basketball. The Cougars advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in 2011.

WCC Hoops is Like No Other
With the addition of BYU, how strong is the West Coast Conference in men's basketball? Only eight Division I programs have compiled 25 or more wins in each of the last four seasons. Three of those programs (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's) now reside in the WCC.

Wilson Takes the Reigns in Malibu
Marty Wilson was named the new head coach at Pepperdine University in March. A 1989 Pepperdine grad, Wilson served as associate head coach for the last three years under Tom Asbury, who retired following the 2010-11 season. As a player, Wilson made two NCAA appearances at Pepperdine, and currently ranks ninth all-time in assists in Waves history.

West Coast Conference, ESPN Announce Eight-Year Extension
The West Coast Conference and ESPN announced an eight-year contract extension in June that will make the ESPN networks the conference's men's basketball national television home through the 2018-19 school year. According to the agreement, the WCC will receive a minimum of 48 annual men's basketball appearances on the ESPN networks from the 2011-12 through the 2018-19 seasons.

Finding Success From Downtown
The West Coast Conference featured a plethora of sharpshooters in 2010-11, and this year looks to be no exception. Santa Clara junior Kevin Foster led the nation in three-point field goals made last year, connecting on 3.8 per game. In Portland, senior guard Nemanja Mitrovic ranked in the national top 20 in three's made (2.9 per game) and three-point field goal percentage (46.3%). As a team, both Saint Mary's and Portland were in the top 20 in three-point field goal percentage.
