MALIBU, Calif. -
The Pepperdine men's basketball team will play in one of the world's most famed venues - Madison Square Garden - on December 20 against Richmond as part of the Gotham Classic, the event organizer announced today.

The Waves and the Spiders make up one half of a doubleheader that also includes North Carolina State and West Virginia. The Pepperdine-Richmond game will air on ESPN3. Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday (Aug. 27) through Ticketmaster.com or by calling 866-448-7849.

"I'm really excited for this," Pepperdine Coach Marty Wilson said. "Madison Square Garden is called the world's most famous arena for a reason. There's so much history and tradition, and the greats have played there. We're going to be playing a very good Richmond team. Plus, it's an opportunity for our guys to visit New York City and we'll try to do some things there."

The Gotham Classic consists of 11 games in all, mostly at campus sites. As part of the agreement, the Waves will play three home games in Firestone Fieldhouse against South Alabama (Dec. 15), Howard (Dec. 17) and IUPUI (Dec. 27).
