SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The 2013-14 West Coast Conference season is underway, and conference teams are off to a strong start. The WCC owns a record of 19-1 (.950) heading into play Thursday. BYU, No. 15 Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s all posted impressive victories during ESPN’s Tip-off Marathon. The Cougars rolled to a 112-103 win at Stanford, the Bulldogs took a 93-61 victory against Colorado State and the Gaels beat Akron 85-63 in the wee small hours of Tuesday morning.

QUICK HITS

  • Through November 13, WCC teams boast a sparkling .950 winning percentage (19-1) vs. non-conference foes. See page 2 for the breakdown.
  • The WCC enjoyed a perfect opening five days to the 2013-14 season, going 17-0, with each member institution collecting at least one victory.
  • For the second time in three seasons, the WCC welcomes a new member as Pacific returns to the league for the 2013-14 season. The Tigers were a founding member of the WCC, then the California Basketball Association.
  • Only four Division I teams have won at least 25 games in each of the last five seasons.  Two of those teams (Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s) call the WCC home. The other two: Duke and Kansas.
  • Three WCC players have been named to prestigious preseason watch lists. The Wooden Preseason Top-50 features BYU’s Tyler Haws and Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos and the Bob Cousy Award Watch List lists Pangos and Loyola Marymount’s Anthony Ireland.
  • Five member institutions posted a perfect Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the most recent cohort as released by the NCAA in October.
