Three WCC teams hit the hardwood Tuesday night

WCC Coaches Preview the 2011-12 Season

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Highlighted by LMU's win at No. 17 UCLA on opening night and a pair of nationally-televised victories as part of the College Tip-Off, the 2011-12 WCC season is off to a strong start.


  • In their second games of the season, both Gonzaga and Saint Mary's earned home wins in front of a national television audience on ESPN as part of the College Hoops Tip-Off, Presented by Disney Parks.

  • After the season's opening weekend, the West Coast Conference sports a 2-1 record against its Pac-12 neighbors. Loyola Marymount won at then-No. 17 UCLA, and Gonzaga downed Washington State. Portland fell at Washington on Monday.

  • Only eight Division I teams have won at least 25 games in each of the last four seasons. Three of those teams (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's) call the West Coast Conference home.

  • LMU's Ashley Hamilton is the first WCC Player of the Week for 2011-12. Hamilton averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals for the week, leading the Lions to an opening night win at No. 17 UCLA.

  • Ranked 22/23 in the two major weekly polls, Gonzaga was picked by the WCC head coaches to win its 12th straight conference title.

  • The WCC Men's Basketball Tip-Off was a resounding success. Held at YouTube headquarters, each coach appeared on the WCC Live radio show, a live blog chat, and a live video interview streamed on YouTube where fans asked questions via Facebook and Twitter. In all, over 7,000 people participated in the live event.

  • For the second straight season, both Gonzaga and Saint Mary's will participate in the College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon on ESPN. The Bulldogs will get the event underway, hosting Washington State Monday at 9 p.m.That game will be followed by Saint Mary's welcoming Northern Iowa to Moraga at 11 p.m.

  • Seven members of the 2011 All-WCC Team were named to this year's Preseason All-West Coast Conference Team.
