West Coast Conference Marches into December

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference heads into the first week of December with a record of 55-22 (71.4%) entering play on Tuesday. See below for more notes on the WCC’s strong start.

  • Through December 2, WCC teams boast a strong 71.4 winning percentage (55-22) vs. non-conference foes. See page 2 of the release for the complete breakdown.
  • Three WCC teams rank among the top-25 in RPI - BYU (9), Saint Mary’s (15) and Gonzaga (24). Pacific checks in at No. 48.
  • WCC Teams can really shoot the basketball. The Conference leads Division I in 3-point field goal percentage (37.3), rates third in field goal percentage (47.9) and is fourth in free throw accuracy (71.6).
  • BYU’s Tyler Haws and Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos were selected to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Top-50 Watch List. It is the second straight season on the list for Pangos.
  • Three WCC member institutions are rated in the KenPom top-50 – Gonzaga (16), BYU (39) and Saint Mary’s (40).
  • Three WCC players have been named to prestigious preseason watch lists. The Wooden Preseason Top-50 list features BYU’s Tyler Haws and Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos. The Bob Cousy Award Watch List lists Pangos and Loyola Marymount’s Anthony Ireland.
  • Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos in the WCC Player of the Week for the second straight week.

  • No. 19/15 Gonzaga leads Division I in field goal percentage (55.8), ranks fifth in scoring (91.8), second in 3-point field goal percentage (48.4) and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.71).
  • BYU rates 14th nationally in scoring (88.3ppg), seventh in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (1.72) and is T-16th in assists per game (17.4).
  • Pepperdine rates sixth nationally in field goal percentage (52.5)
  • San Diego rates 20th among Division I leaders in field goal percentage defense (37.4) and is 23rd in scoring defense (61.6).
  • Pacific rates fourth nationally among Division I leaders in free throw percentage (79.8), while Saint Mary’s is seventh (78.8).
  • The WCC is the second-highest scoring conference in Division I (80.8 PPG). The Pac-12 is first (81.1 PPG), through games of Dec. 1.
