SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - University of San Francisco men's basketball continues its commitment to community service and joined Father Joseph Walsh, Mrs. Sharon McCarthy Allen and the St. Stephen School community in blessing the new St. Stephen Parish Center Sunday, December 6. The new Parish Center was built for children to have a place to develop confidence, self-discipline, positive concepts of sportsmanship, fair play, and the value of teamwork.
With more than 250 people in attendance, USF head coach Rex Walters and the Dons worked with youth children on listening skills and taught different basketball fundamentals. Skills the Dons worked on with the children were stretching/flexibility, ball-handling, passing, shooting and playing games. The event concluded with the Dons signing autographs and taking photos.
Entering the holiday season and with semester finals looming, USF basketball under Walters continues to emphasize service to others. The Dons have played a challenging road schedule of late and in the last eight days have spent just two full days in San Francisco.
