With another week of non-conference play completed, the West Coast Conference announced its players of the week. Saint Mary's Omar Samhan won the men's award while Loyola Marymount's Renahy Young represented the women.
Men's Player of the Week
Omar Samhan, SMC
Samhan earned his WCC Player of the Week honors for the third time this season after averaging 29.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots in home wins over Portland State and Pacific. Samhan had 31 points, including 15-of-23 shooting, and 17 rebounds in 32 minutes against Portland State and 28 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots in 36 minutes vs. Pacific. Samhan finished the week shooting an impressive 60.4 (26-of-43) percent from the field, and is now shooting 60.3 (80-of-146) percent from the floor this season.
Women's Player of the Week
Renahy Young, LMU
Young posted an LMU season-high 26 points to lead the Lions to an 80-63 win over Cal Poly on Saturday. Young carried the Lions at the beginning, scoring 11 of the team's first 13 points and finished with her second 20-plus scoring game of the season and 10th of her career. Her 26 points were the most by a Lion since December 6, 2008 and it was Young's largest output since her career-high 31 in triple overtime against Arizona on November 15 of last season. Young connected on five of her first six shots from the floor, then closed it out with a steady 11-of-12 from the free throw line to pass Jamie Jesko (1989-93) and move into sixth place on LMU's career free throws made list with 258. She continues her quest for 1,000 career points, ending the week with 943.
