SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference opens the 2013-14 conference schedule this week. The WCC enters league play as one of just four Division I conferences with every member institution boasting a winning record. The league owns an overall non-conference record of 82-40 (67.2%). The Conference has established itself as one of the elite offensive conferences in the country. See below for more notes on the WCC's strong non-conference campaign. 

WCC QUICK HITS

  • Through December 25, WCC teams boast a strong 67.2 winning percentage (82-40) vs. non-conference foes. See page 2 for the complete non-conference breakdown.
  • Three WCC teams rank among the top-25 in RPI - BYU (18), Saint Mary's (23) and Gonzaga (24) Pacific (35) cracked the top-40.
  • WCC Teams can really shoot and score the basketball. The Conference ranks second among Division I leaders in scoring (78.93), field goal percentage (47.35) and 3-point field goal percentage (36.91).
  • BYU's Tyler Haws and Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos were selected to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Top-50 Watch List. It is the second straight season on the list for Pangos.
  • Three WCC member institutions are rated in the KenPom top-60 - Gonzaga (27), BYU (46) and Saint Mary's (53).
  • Three WCC players have been named to prestigious preseason watch lists. The Wooden Preseason Top-50 list features BYU's Tyler Haws and Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos. The Bob Cousy Award Watch List lists Pangos and Loyola Marymount's Anthony Ireland.
  • Five member institutions posted a perfect Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the most recent cohort as released by the NCAA in October. 

WCC NON-CONFERENCE NOTES
The West Coast Conference posted a strong non-conference resume.

  • The WCC is one of just four conferences nationally with every institution posting a winning record entering league play, joining the Big East, Big-12 and the Big-10. The Atlantic-10 has two league members at .500 as of Dec. 25.
  • Five WCC teams rank in the top-50 nationally in scoring offense - BYU (4th/89.2), Gonzaga (16th/85.3), USF (35th/81.5), Portland (42nd/80.8) and LMU (50th/79.8).
  • Three WCC teams rank in the top-15 nationally in free throw percentage - Pacific (6th/77.1), Portland (8th/76.9) and LMU (12th/76.4).
  • Five WCC teams rank in the top-60 nationally in assist/turnover ratio - Gonzaga (18th/1.54); BYU (19th/1.53), Santa Clara (34th/1.38); Portland (38th/1.36) and Saint Mary's (56th/1.27).
  • Nine of 10 WCC teams convert on at least 45% from the field and nine of 10 connect on at least 35% from 3-point range. 

WCC AMONG NATIONAL STATISTICAL LEADERS

  • No. 21/15 Gonzaga ranks fourth among Division I in field goal percentage (52.2), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (43.5), ranks 16th in scoring (85.3), 16th in 3-pointers (8.9), 18th in assist/turnover ratio (1.54) and 25th in turnovers (10.3).
  • BYU rates fourth nationally in scoring (89.2 ppg), 19th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (1.53), eighth in assists per game (17.7) and 10th in free throw attempts (265).
  • San Francisco rates ninth nationally in field goal percentage (50.4).
  • San Diego rates 10th among Division I leaders in field goal percentage defense (37.7), 16th in scoring defense (60.8) and 17th in 3-point defense (28.9).
  • Pacific rates sixth nationally among Division I leaders in free throw percentage (77.1), Portland is eighth (76.9) at the line, while Loyola Marymount is 12th (76.4).
  • Saint Mary's is eighth in 3-point percentage (42.8).
  • Santa Clara rates 18th nationally among Division I leaders in turnovers (10.1).
