SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference has named its Men's Basketball Player of the Week for December 30, 2014.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - KYLE COLLINSWORTH, JR., G - BYU
Junior guard Kyle Collinsworth averaged 17.3 points, 11 boards, 6 assists and 2 steals as BYU went 2-1 in games against UMass, No. 8 Gonzaga and Portland last week.
Against the Zags, he recorded his second triple-double (13 points, 10 boards, 10 assists) of the season and became the BYU career leader in triple-doubles, as well as the only player in the nation with two this season.
Although records are incomplete, Collinsworth’s triple-double against Gonzaga is the first in a West Coast Conference game since Pepperdine All-American Doug Christie scored 21 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against Saint Mary’s (2/1/91).
Against Portland, BYU’s first conference win of the season, Collinsworth netted 21 points and added eight boards, four assists, two blocks and two steals. In the UMass game he turned in a double-double performance with 18 points, a season-high 15 boards, four assists and three steals.
Collinsworth led BYU in rebounds all three games and led the team in assists against UMass and Gonzaga.
For the week he averaged 11.5 points and 4.0 assists per game.
