Golfers Tied For 14th At John Burns Invitational

Honolulu, HI - The USD golf team is tied for 14th place after the first round of the 2007 John Burns Intercollegiate. The three-day event, hosted by the University of Hawaii, is being held at the par-72, 6,916-yard Leilehua Golf Course in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. UNLV leads the 22 team field with a 277 (-11), with the top five filled out by BYU (279), Auburn (284), Colorado State (284) and Long Beach State (284). USD shot a team score of 293 (+5) and is tied with UTEP, and ahead of 7 teams. USD was paced by Darrin Hall (T22nd at 71) and Dale Smith (T49 at 73). They are followed by Mike Barry (T65 at 74), Joe Panzeri (T79 at 75) and Bucky Coe (T93 at 77). Individual leaders include Michael Drake of Long Beach State at 65 (-7), Nick Becker of BYU at 66, and Frank Wrenn of SMU at 67. Second round play continues tomorrow morning.
