(Honolulu, HI) - The USD golf team shot a final round team score of 288 today to finish tied for 14th with a three-round score of 872 (+8) at the 2007 John Burns Intercollegiate. The 22 team event, being held at the Leilehua Golf Course (par 72; 6,917 yards) in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, is being hosted by the University of Hawaii. In final round action USD was paced by Bucky Coe (71), Dale Smith (72) and Michael Barry (72) as the Toreros shot their best team score (288) out of the three days to finish tied for 14th overall with Arkansas. Joe Panzeri (73) and Darrin Hall (74) rounded out USD's individual scores on Friday. USD's final individual standings included Smith (T38 at 217; 73-72-72), Hall (T44 at 218; 71-73-74), Barry (T44 at 218; 74-72-72), Coe (T75 at 222; 77-74-71) and Panzeri (T75 at 222; 75-74-73).
BYU shot a final round team score of 270 to overcome a 10-stroke deficit after two rounds to earn the team title at 834 (30 under-par). Rounding out the top five included UNLV (842), Texas A&M (855), San Diego State (856) and Colorado State (858). Individual medalist honors went to Frank Wrenn of SMU who finished at 203 (13 under par) with rounds of 67-67-69. He edged out Jake Ellison of BYU (204; 69-69-66). Rounding out the top-5 were Michael Drake of Long Beach State (206; 65-71-70), Brian Prouty of Arizona (208; 73-66-69) and Andrew Landry of Arkansas (208; 69-68-71).
