(Rancho Santa Fe, CA) - The USD men's golf team placed 2nd out of 15 teams at the 2007 Callaway Golf Invitation that they hosted the past two days at The Farms Golf Club. USD shot a final day team score of 289 to finish at 874, one stroke better than Cal Poly. San Diego State shot a final day total of 285 to finish at 867 and take home the team title. Louie Bishop of UC Davis carded a final day score of 68 to finish at 209 (68-73-68) to win medalist honors. He edged San Diego State's Jamie Puterbaugh who finished one stroke back at 210 (73-67-70). USD's Darrin Hall fired a 67 today to finish in a tie for 5th place at 213. The shot of the day was turned in by UC Irvine's Jay Choe who pulled out a 3-iron on the 220 yard par-3 16th and made a hole-in-one.
USD's Hall was followed by Joe Panzeri (T14 at 218; 73-70-75), Mike Barry (T21 at 220; 74-72-74), Dale Smith (T57 at 230; 77-75-81) and Jake Yount (T62 at 231; 75-75-81). USD had two players playing as individuals - Bucky Coe and Brian Phan. Coe fired a final round 72, including a 33 on the front nine, to finish in a tie for 18th at 219 (70-77-72). Phan shot a final day 75 to finish tied for 30th at 222 (70-77-75).
