Rancho Santa Fe, CA - The Saint Mary's men's golf team posted a third-round score of even-par 288 at the 2007 Callaway Golf Invitational and finished seventh overall in the 15-team event. At the par-72, 6,920-yard The Farms Golf Club, the Gaels posted rounds of 296-299-288 for a total of 883 (+19) and tied Texas-Arlington for seventh place overall.
Texas-Arlington entered the final round with a one-shot lead over San Diego State and shot a third round score of 302 to drop down to seventh place. San Diego State shot a final round 285, and combined with its scores of 293 and 289 on Monday, the Aztecs finished seven shots better of tournament host San Diego.
In Tuesday's final round, SMC was led by freshman Robert McRae who posted a 2-under par score of 70 on Tuesday. McRae finished with a total score of 221 (+5) after rounds of 72 and 79 on Monday. McRae, who finished in a tied for 27th place, was the Gaels' second best finisher. Josh Kelley finished tied for 14th place with a score of 2-over par 218. Kelley posted a 75 on Tuesday, which was the highest round of the Gaels for the Gaels. Kelley had rounds of 72 and 71 on Monday.
Brett Mormann played consistently for SMC as he had rounds of 74-75-74 for a 54-hole total of 223 (+7). Mormann finished tied for 34th overall. After opening the tournament with an 81, junior Mike McRae recovered with rounds of 74 and 71. McRae was one of two Gaels to shoot under par on Tuesday.
Freshman Daniel Cone had rounds of 78 and 79 on Monday, but regrouped over the night to finish the Callaway Golf Invitational with a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday to help the Gaels move up from eighth to seventh place overall. Cone finished tied for 56th overall.
Hans Olson, who was playing as an individual, shot 80 (+8) on Tuesday following rounds of 79 and 82 on Monday. Olson finished tied for 74th.
