Golf Can't Keep Pace

Westlake Village, CA (March 5) - The Loyola Marymount University men's golf team finished the 2007 USC Collegiate Invitational in 14th place on Monday at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The field featured nine teams in the top 45 nationally as the Lions posted a final round 301.

Sophomore Brian Locke, who entered the day tied atop the leader board, finished in a tie for second place with USC's Jamie Lovemark, who he was tied with to start the day. Both finished with three-over par scores on the final day, which played tougher on the par 71 course. USC's Rory Hie won the tournament by shooting a final round par to finish at five-under.

Freshman Blake Nicolai, playing in just his second collegiate tournament, had the best round of the day for the Lions, posting a two-over 73. He finished tied for 47th among the 84-man field. His final round featured a birdie, three bogey's and 14 pars.

Junior Jason D'Amore finished with a final round 78 and in a tie for 61st with a 230. Josh Escobedo was in a tie for 69th with a final round 79 to post a three-round 233. Sophomore Louie Bergna had an impressive round with a 76 to finish at 234, good for a tie at 73rd.

The Lions will play at the USF Triumph at Pauma Valley on March 12-13.
