BEAUMONT, Calif. - The LMU golf team finished in sixth place at the Braveheart Classic today at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, CA. The Lions led after the first round, and finished just six shots back of the second place teams at the conclusion of the tournament. Jason D'Amore led the Lions with a ninth place finish.
The Lions led the 20 team field after round one with a 289, but saw their score rise in the second and third rounds. D'Amore and Brian Locke led the way for the team in the second round, shooting par 72 as the team shot 296.
The team shot a 305 for the third and final round of the tournament, and finished in sixth place. Chaz Inouye shot a team-low 73 in the final round, good enough to move into a tie for 17th for the tournament. D'Amore shot a 76, and Locke shot a 78 in the final round to tie for 17th.
UCLA won the tournament. After trailing LMU following the first round, the Bruins shot a 286 and a 288 in the final two rounds to finish at +1. Cal Poly and Santa Clara tied for second place at +20. San Diego was in fourth at +22, and Southern Utah finished at +25. The Lions were just five strokes behind the two second place teams at +26.
LMU finished far ahead of two other WCC competitors, Portland and Gonzaga. The Lions were seven strokes ahead of the Pilots and 57 strokes ahead of the Zags.
