Murrells, Inlet, S.C. -
Senior Alex Coe carded a final-round 3-under par 69 to finish at 6-under par 210 and capture individual medalist honors at the General Jim Hackler Invitational that concluded Monday at the par-72, 6,950-yard TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murrells, Inlet, South Carolina.
Coe posted rounds of 70-71-69 to register a one-shot victory over second-round leader Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State and capture the tournament for the second time in three years. The senior from La Quinta, Calif. also won the General Jim Hackler Invitational in 2004 when he totaled a 4-under score of 212.
Coe's 210 in this year's tournament is a career-low, eclipsing the 212 he shot at the 2004 General Jim Hackler Invitational.
Pepperdine, currently ranked No. 19, finished third, 20-shots behind East Tennessee State, which captured the team title with a 3-over par score of 867. Host Coastal Carolina (877) placed second, followed by Pepperdine (877) and Florida State and Virginia Tech, who tied for fourth at 24-over par 888.
Individually, following Coe and Davies were East Tennessee's Jordan Findlay (213), Virginia's Eamonn McCloughlin (214) and Scott Gustafson of Notre Dame and East Tennessee State's Gareth Shaw, who tied for fifth with 1-under par scores of 215.
Pepperdine sophomore Michael Baird tied for 27th with an 8-over par score of 224, one-shot ahead of teammate J.J. Wood, who tied for 29th at 9-over 225. Freshman Adam Porzak (233) finished 66th while sophomore Colin Wilcox (235) tied for 67th.
Pepperdine is next in action March 27 when it begins play at the N.I.T. Invitational at The Omni Tucson Invitational Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.
