Rancho Santa Fe, CA (March 13) - Sophomore Jason D'Amore has had an impressive start to the 2006 spring campaign for the Loyola Marymount men's golf program, posting a pair of top-10 finishes. He was at it again, posting a first-round 66 to lead the 80-man field of the 2006 Callaway Golf Invitational presented by The Farms Golf Club on Monday.
D'Amore shot a 29 on the front nine at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe on his way to a three-stroke lead after one round. The second round was halted due to darkness and will be completed along with the third and final round on Tuesday. The second-year player from Mira Costa High School was one of just five players to turn in scores under par.
His 66 led the Lions to a team score of 297, good for a tie for third with Saint Mary's. San Diego State leads the 15-team field with a 292. Cal is in second at 296. San Jose State and UC Davis round out the top-five with a 299.
Rounding out the Lions' team scores were freshman Brian Locke in 33rd with a 76, senior Chaz Inouye a stroke behind and in 38th place, freshman Louie Bergna is in 47th with a 78 and junior Brendan von Doehren is in 59th with an 80.
