Golf Tied for Third After 18 Holes at Callaway Golf Invitational

Rancho Santa Fe, CA - The Saint Mary's men's golf team is tied for third place after one round of the 2006 Callaway Golf Invitational from the par-72, 6,911-yard The Farm Golf Course. The Gaels shot a team score of 297 in the opening round and is tied with Loyola Marymount for third place. San Diego State leads the 16-team field after an opening round score of 292, and California shot 296 in the opening round to lead the Gaels by one stroke.

The second round of the 2006 Callaway Golf Invitational was suspended due to darkness and will be completed on Tuesday morning before the final round is played. Saint Mary's will have to complete two holes on Tuesday to complete the second round.

Sophomore Mike McRae posted SMC's lowest round in Monday's morning 18 with a 2-under par 70. McRae, who shot a 32 on the opening nine, posted the third lowest score in the first round. LMU's Jason D'Amore shot a 66 in the opening round after posting a 29 after nine holes. San Diego State's Andrew Scott posted a 69 to help the Aztecs to a 6-shot lead over California.

Chadd Cocco opened the tournament with a 2-over par 74 to tie for 16th place heading into the second round. Josh Kelley is tied for 18th following a 75 (+3) to open the tournament. Russell Yu and Brett Mormann shot scores of 78 (+6) to round out the Gaels scoring.
