Rancho Santa Fe, CA (March 14) - Loyola Marymount sophomore Jason D'Amore finished the 2006 Callaway Golf Invitational with a three-round score of 209, good for seven-under par and the individual title on Tuesday. D'Amore claims his second tournament title in two seasons as he led the Lions to a tie for third place in the overall standings at the Farms Golf Course in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
D'Amore posted rounds of 66, 72 and 71 to win the tournament title by five strokes. It is his fourth straight top-10 finish on the year and the 11th of his career at LMU. He led the field of 84 golfers in birdies with 17 and in par-4 scoring, going two-under par for the tournament on the par-4 holes.
The top finish for D'Amore helped the Lions finish in third place of the 16-team field thanks to a team score of 899 (+35). LMU finished in a tie with San Jose State, who led the Lions by two strokes going into the final round. San Diego State won the team title with an 880 while San Diego finished second at 892. In fifth place behind the Lions were Long Beach State and Cal with scores of 900. Fellow West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's finished eighth with a score of 910.
Freshman Brian Locke finished second for the Lions and tied for 22nd overall thanks to a 226 on the tournament. Locke and D'Amore were tied among the field in par-3 scoring, going one-under in the three rounds.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lions was freshman Louie Bergna in a tie for 45th with a score of 233, junior Brendan von Doehren in a tie for 52nd with a score of 237 and senior Chaz Inouye in a tie for 57th with a score of 239.
The Lions have two weeks off before playing in the Fidelity National Title Intercollegiate at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course on March 23-24.
