Arroyo Grande, CA (Mar. 23) - Loyola Marymount men's golf shot a two-round 579 to sit in second place at the Cuesta Title/Cal Poly Intercollegiate on Thursday afternoon. The Lions were paced by freshman Brian Locke, who shot a two-round score of three-under par.
The Lions posted team scores of 289 and 290 to stand alone in second place of the 15-team field. The Lions lead third place Western Kentucky by eight strokes and are nine strokes behind first place Cal State Bakersfield. The final 18 holes will be played Friday morning.
As for Locke, he posted an even-par 72 in the first round and moved to within three strokes of the leader with a 69 in the second round for his total of 141. Fellow freshman Louie Bergna posted rounds of 74 and 72 to post a 146 to sit in a tie for 18th.
Playing as an individual is senior Chaz Inouye and he sits tied with Bergna for 18th with a 146. He was tied for the lead after the first round thanks to his best 18 of the season at 68.
Rounding out the Lions scores was sophomore Jason D'Amore just one stroke behind Bergna and Inouye at 147. He posted a round of 69 to start but struggled in the second with a 78. Junior Brendan von Doehren was in a tie for 34th at 150, posting rounds of 74 and 76. Junior Josh Escobedo, after posting a first round 80, responded in the second with a 73.
